For those of you seeking something cosy and familiar this Saturday night here’s one that won’t disappoint.
Mute Swimmer is Guy Dale, a British singer-songwriter living in Berlin. You might have heard of him if you’re into photography, sound, installations and painting as he too dabbles in those dark arts. For most of this past year Mr. Dale has been on the road, playing constantly and honing his current craft of choice, music.
He first came to my attention with the beautiful 4 track EP Sketches For E.E., instrumental pieces written especially for his new born niece and recorded in a kitchen somewhere in Berlin. I think you can maybe some rain in the background, it’s gorgeous stuff in the vein of James Blackshaw and been getting regular plays round these parts.
His regular solo stuff is a bit more robust than that as I have discovered and look forward to my first experience of it live. One quote sticks out about Guy’s music:
like talking heads trashing nick cave’s wendy house in a samuel beckett production
…jesus, what can I write to equal that? This I have to see.
Dale has played alongside She Keeps Bees, Alisdair Roberts and Carla Bozulich to name but a few and released recordings on Woodland Recordings, Fatcat Records and Bleeding Heart Recordings.
